Here are helpful tips for getting your videos discovered and viewed on YouTube.
If you really want to get noticed on YouTube then one of the best ways is to create lots of content, of course. “The more content you create, the more related video clicks, and the bigger your potential reach, “YouTube tells its partners. We can attest to this. Since we started doing just one video per month for 6 months, our subscribers have increased from 2 to 27. Not bad considering our growth is completely organic.

Additionally, the more videos that you have on different topics, the more searches your videos will come up in.
Think about it this way. If you have a single video on YouTube, let’s say it is about Jennifer Lawrence and her role in the latest X-Men movie, your video will only show up in very specific searches (i.e. Jennifer Lawrence, X-Men, movie). However, if you have other videos about Hugh Jackman, superheroes, and millennial superstars then your videos will show up in a much larger variety of search results.
Add to that, the more videos you create the more often your subscribers will see your name in their inbox. YouTube automatically send subscribers updates on your videos – even if you just update the description or title.
There are some obvious important things you need to do to maximize your chances of being discovered – like the meta tags and description, sharing on social networks, taking advantage of annotations, curating other useful videos (this works like retweeting useful content on your twitter), and choosing or creating amazing thumbnails.
Read these 11 very quick tips to help your videos get found more. All of these are important, often time consuming, elements that will help your YouTube video stand out on this massive platform. However, none of these are as important or have the kind of impact that your title has.
Let’s look at two examples – both with very different numbers of views:
Title #1: 10 ways discounting hurts your bottom line
Title #2: Learn the difference between margins and markup
The title is incredibly important. You want to create a title that is not only catchy, but also describes what your video is by using highly relevant and searched for words. If you need help coming up with keywords, you can use the YouTube Keyword Tool to get keyword ideas.
Your title is the number one factor in getting more views on your videos. It needs to be descriptive, sure, but it needs to be completely practical and exactly what people will type into the search bar. Remember, people can only click on your video if it shows up in the search.
Use terms like “how to,” “why does,” etc.
Do NOT use terms like “10 ways to,” “2 reasons why,” etc. These are common titles for blogs, but this is not how people search for topics.
Which of the above titles do you think got more views? Again, people will only view your video if it shows up in their search.
Title #1: 10 ways discounting hurts your bottom line – 28 views
Title #2: Learn the difference between margins & markup – 2,143 views
Title #2, I’m sure you guessed, had more views. But how many views it had was the turning point for us in how much weight we put on the Title. It got more than 2,100 more views that Title #1.
Clearly, the terms in “Difference Between Margins & Markup” were great for searchability and therefore led to more views.
The first title about “Why Discounting Hurts” is not common knowledge and therefore not a common search term. People don’t often search for things and terms they don’t even know about. Instead, these topics are more discovered though organic metadata, etc. or by scrolling through your other videos once on your channel.
“Stop thinking of ‘video marketing’ as this separate entity that is optional for your business. Video is an effective form of communication that needs to be integrated into each and every aspect of your existing marketing efforts.” – James Wedmore, The 7 Video Marketing Success Principles Everyone Should Know
